PHOTOS: Oyo South Senatorial Candidate, Kola-Daisi, Unveils Football Tournament, To Engage Over 3,000 Young Talents
Idris Kolapo Kola-Daisi, the Accord’s senatorial candidate for Oyo South, has referred to sports as a true tool that can be used to effectively engage and develop the multitude of young talents that are visible throughout his constituency in Oyo South.
He announced this at the opening of the Idris Kolapo Kola-Daisi football tournament, commonly known as the “KKD Cup,” which he organized to attract young athletes from all nine (9) local governments in Oyo South.
Kola-Daisi explained his motivations for creating the competition, saying that it was necessary to nurture and develop both new and existing talents in order to achieve both national and international relevance. Kola-Daisi has met the majority of the existing talents while playing on various fields on weekends.
“Opportunity is not uniformly distributed, but talent is.” When I entered politics, one of my key goals was to counter the message in this quotation and give young people the opportunity and platforms they need to reach their full potential, he said.
“In the months that I’ve been actively interacting with young people in Oyo South, playing soccer with some of them on the weekends, I learned that the amount of talent we have is larger than we realize, and the time to provide them with opportunity to bloom is now.”
“I am happy to announce the Idris Kolapo Kola-Daisi Football Competition, “KKD Cup,” has officially begun today. The first of several strategies we’ve developed to guarantee opportunity for the growth of our gifted young people “.
He continued, “As the slogan “AIM FOR THE STARS” suggests, I can assure you that this tournament is not a jamboree; rather, our goal is to use this platform to consistently demonstrate how sports can be deployed as an efficient tool for youth engagement and development, nurturing and exposing these talented ones to both national and global acclaim. And we will achieve it by the grace of God”.
According to the head of the local organising committee for the tournament, Mr. Adewale Michael, the KKD Cup will engage 3,000 young talents and their coaches in 72 teams across the nine (9) local government areas in Oyo South.
“We will have additional teams through playoffs to engage more of them, and with the permission of our principal, I am telling you that the best talents from this tournament will be the first entrants of the KKD sport development Academy. We thank him for the vision and for the willingness to do something that considers the future of these young boys and girls”, Adewale submitted.
