Oyo NNPP Criticizes Gov. Makinde Over Plan To Spend N10.3 Billion On Junction Improvements

The New Nigeria Peoples Party(NNPP) in Oyo State has knocked out the incumbent governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde for the embarrassment he has caused the people of the State, for the outrageous spending of the resources of the State.

The party stated that it was uncalled for, for the governor to project 10.3 billion for what it described as a mere improvements of junctions and asked him to present to the public the scope of the project and the design.

The NNPP criticized the plan by Governor Makinde’s-led administration to spend N10.3 billion naira on a proposed reconstruction of three named road junctions in Ibadan describing the planned reconstruction, as a misplaced priority and an attempt to squander government resources.

NNPP in a statement signed by its state Publicity Secretary, Femi Olaitan Hero, pointed out that the party stood by its position that the PDP-led government in Oyo state has not stopped and it is continuously plunging the state into huge and embarrassing debts with its spending pattern.

Oyo NNPP said that the present administration was popular for building its castles in the air in demonstration of its gross incompetence and avowed desire for mismanaging public funds.

The NNPP argued, “Governor Seyi Makinde keeps taking the people of Oyo state for fools, as he keeps embarrassing them with frequent frivolous spending of billions on small projects which could be done by competent men in the Ministry of Works of the state”

The party accused Governor Makinde of carrying out projects without any proper presentation and deliberations at the state executive council meeting or consideration and approval by the appropriate organs of government as required by law, alleging that governor Seyi Makinde reels out contracts and projects with heavy sums as he wishes”.

“Our party wondered how the cost of N10.3 billion was arrived at, even when no pictures of the proposed junctions to be constructed have not been shown to the people of Oyo state.”

“ Also, the people of the state need to know the scope of the project and the engineering designs that culminated in the contract sum. Was there any due diligence before the cost was arrived at? When did the consultants survey the proposed road junctions?”

According to the NNPP, it said, it is high time governor Makinde stopped taking advantage of being the state governor to spend taxpayers’ money unnecessarily, as it alleged that it has become the usual practice of the Makinde-led administration to put the cart before the horse.

“He promised us Iwo Road interchange, but he gave us uncompleted Motor-parks instead and up till now, the re-awarded Circular road, has not been forthcoming, also the reconstruction of Agbowo Shopping complex is a failed project after the jamboree flagged off, there are many abandoned road projects in Oke-Ogun, He reportedly collected billions of naira for farms settlement, up till today none is commissioned. These are a few out of the Audio and below-standard projects of governor Makinde, now he shocked the people of Oyo state with the #10.3b road junction improvement contract.”

” The people of the state cannot just watch while a government without any blueprint or action plan continues to experiment almost four years in office.”

Oyo NNPP thereafter said it is a sheer display of incompetence and the unbridled quest to mismanage public funds by governor Makinde, as there is no reason for such kind of desperation for contract awards by him since people of the state have decided not to return him as governor,” the party stated
