To honor World Teachers’ Day in 2022, Arc (Dr.) Hassan Giwa, the founder of the Hassan Olawale Giwa (HOG) Foundation, has given certain teachers in the Lagelu and Akinyele Local Governments cash gifts in keeping with his educational development objective.
The first of its kind humanitarian gesture program took place on Thursday at the HOG Foundation’s office, Iwo-Road, Ibadan.
Arc Giwa stated that the gesture was made to recognize teachers in the state for their significant contributions to the growth of the country and the upbringing of the young. There were 50 teachers who were the recipients of the cash reward.
The businessman, who was born in Ibadan, stated that in order to raise the bar for education in Oyo State and throughout Nigeria, teachers must be motivated and encouraged to carry out their responsibilities and use their full ability to improve the lives of the young.
The founder of the HOG Foundation said that throughout time, the foundation has helped to advance education.
He emphasized that the foundation has been successful in paying the West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees for at least 100 students over the course of the previous two years, renovating schools, distributing writing materials, and providing primary school children with uniforms.
He noted that the foundation has also contributed to other sectors such as health, sports and has engaged several people in different vocations.
‘Through the HOG Foundation, we have paid examination fees of students in terminal classes such as primary six and SS3. In the last two years, we have paid WAEC fees for not less than 100 students in Lagelu and Akinyele Local Governments. We have recorded achievements in the renovation of several dilapidated school buildings and provided chairs and tables where necessary. At HOG Foundation, we have given out uniforms to countless numbers of pupils in the primary school category and distributed over 100,000 exercise books to aid learning.”
“The decision to appreciate the teachers is to motivate them to do more. They have been doing great work and they need motivation to put in more effort to fully deploy their potentials to impact knowledge in the lives of the young ones. I believe this is the appropriate time to show them the love, to honour and celebrate with them and importantly to commemorate the Annual World Teachers’ Day,” Giwa said.
The HOG Foundation’s founder characterized teachers as vital people whose contribution to nation-building through the dissemination of information and the transmission of societal norms in the nation cannot be understated.
Therefore, Arc Giwa urged well-meaning citizens of the nation to not leave the welfare of teachers to the government alone, stating that it is everyone’s duty to inspire teachers in order to create a better society.
Speaking on behalf of the academic community, Mr. Adegoke Olaolu and Mr. Waheed Akintunde expressed their gratitude to Arc Hassan Giwa for his kind gift and prayed that God Almighty would continue to be with him and bless his ways.
They said that this is the first occasion when teachers will be honored and acknowledged without any consideration of politics.
They pledged to keep up their rigorous performance of their duties in order to advance sound and high-quality education in Oyo State and throughout Nigeria.
