In line with the academic culture in a university and a bid to officially welcome, introduce and inculcate into the newly admitted students the rules and regulations guiding their stay in Hallmark University, the management of Hallmark University, held a one-day orientation program for the 2022/2023 Academic Session.
The Ceremony which was chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Segun Odunola along with other members of the management, guest speakers, members of staffs and students in attendance took place on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the Institutions Auditorium.
In His welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Segun Odunola disclosed that, the Management had been lenient with the behavior of new students due to their ignorance of the institutions rules and regulations since their resumption on campus and noted therefore that this exercise is to fully inform them of what the University Regulations are and the need to strictly comply with them. He then emphasized that after this exercise, claiming the ignorance of the University Regulations will not be a tenable excuse and if anybody does that, he will be visited with full weight of the law.
The Vice Chancellor further urged the freshers to strive for academic excellence and put enough strength and vigor into their studies to yield some satisfying results.
While buttressing and explaining further the speech of the Vice Chancellor, the Registrar of the Institution, Mr. Afolabi Ajayi, rolled out the Code of Conduct of the University to the newly admitted (100 and 200 level) students.
The Registrar instructed and admonished the new intakes to abstain from criminal activities and social vices like theft, bribery, violence, intimidation, assault amongst many others.
He warned them that running foul of any of the Institutions rules would attract appropriate and commensurate punishment.
The Ag University Librarian spoke and enlightened the newly admitted students on the use of the library and its advantages in the area of the search. She revealed that Hallmark University Library is well stocked with recent texts, and various gadgets that is expected of a standard University library with appropriate professionals to attend to students at all times.
Addressing the rules governing the examinations and students dress codes, the Ag Dean of Students Affairs, Mrs. Olive Adelodun, educated the new students on various actions the institution classified under Examination malpractice and its repercussions.
All students were required to dress corporately to the lecture rooms and that there are also some particular types of clothes that should not be worn to different sections of the University Premises, She explained.
Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Feruke Bello, explained how students can calculate their Cumulative Grade Point Average ( CGPA ), its importance and implication.
In His Address, the Acting Director of the Medical Center, Dr. Olufemi Osisami assured the students of their wellness and that medical emergencies would be adequately and promptly taken care of throughout their stay on campus if any. He also explained that the school has had an understanding with a nearby standard Hospital to serve as an insurance for medical emergencies that are outside the Schools capabilities.
Speaking on the safety and maintenance of the law and order, the Ag Chief Security General of the University, Mr. Adeosun, told the Students to be security conscious in the face of threat. He enumerated a number of counter measures for students to be used in a situation of danger with the purpose of ensuring safety.
The school is always ready and has put in place measures to prevent and arrest any threatening situation of emergencies on the campus as far as security is concerned He said.
Mr. Jide Olarenwaju also gave a short speech on the use and abuse of the Students registration portals. He explained in details with visual demonstrations the correct use of the student portal and how it had made a lot easier to pay fees and register for courses.
The event was rounded up with a lecture from the Special Guest Lecturer Dr. Jack Mbom a Professional Health and Wellness Consultant and Exercise Physiology Expert. In his paper he dwelled extensively on the need to feed on the right food and also exercise adequate to keep the body in the right shape for a fruitful Academic excellence.
The programme was adjudged to be fun filled and educative from the outset to the end.
