Following the Saturday kidnapping of some farmers by unidentified gunmen, the Oyo State Government has sent a security team to the Ipapo/Iseyin axis in the Oyo North Senatorial District.
The state authorities however urged the residents of Ipapo to maintain calm.
The area’s current security architecture is being supported by a security team made up of police and the military, according to a statement released on Sunday by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi.
Although the unpleasant occurrence took place outside the State Farm Settlement (Ipapo/Iseyin), he claimed that the Oyo State Government prioritizes protecting the lives and property of all residents of the State, including farmers.
The government “pledges to take every measure to safely restore those abducted to their loved ones,” according to the statement, which was signed by the Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun.
“The military team is expected to join the operation that is planned to not only rescue the victims but also ensure that appropriate actions are taken against the perpetrators,” the statement by the Commissioner for Information read.
“It is in pursuant of this that all security agencies in the State including the Nigerian Army have been mobilised to the area and are in hot pursuit of the criminals”, he said.
He assured all that the State Government is collaborating with security agencies to rescue the abductees within shortest possible time and prevent reoccurrence of the sad event.
On Saturday afternoon, armed robbers wearing army camouflage abducted four farmers from the Agric Settlement neighborhood in Iseyin, Oyo State.
The four farmhands who were kidnapped were employed at a sizable poultry farm within the community, according to about ten farmers who managed to escape.
Many of the farmers in the farm settlement along the Iseyin-Ipapo-Saki route obtained the land for farming purposes on lease from the State Ministry of Agriculture.
