Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has revised its consumer classification following NERC’s tariff adjustment.
Recall that the Vice Chairman of NERC, Musliu Oseni, during a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, 3rd of April, 2024, has said increase will see Band A customers paying N225 per kilowatt-hour, a significant rise from the current rate of N66.
Oseni further disclosed that some customers previously classified under Band A have been downgraded to Band B due to the failure of their electricity distribution company to meet the required hours of electricity supply.
The distribution company has however said it has downgraded streets like Oluyole, Jericho, Ikolaba, and Bodija from Band A due to insufficient electricity supply.
The new development was contained in the statement released by IBEDC on Saturday, 6th April, 2024, following the announcement by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to increase electricity tariffs for customers classified under Band A- who typically enjoy a minimum of 20 hours of electricity supply per day.
Streets like Oluyole, Jericho, Ikolaba (Statehouse), Bodija, and Onireke in Ibadan that were once reputable for long hours of electricity supply have now been declared downgraded from Band A to other Bands
Oluyole Estate has now been downgraded to Band E and is expected to have a 7-hour supply, while Jericho and Ikolaba are now under Band C with an expectation of a 12-hour supply.
Old Bodija is now under Band D, to have 11 hours supply and Okebola is downgraded to Band B to have 16 hours supply.
Meanwhile a survey conducted by Nigerian Tribune shows these areas enjoyed good hours of electricity supply although it cannot be authoritatively affirmed they got 20 hours
