The Child Protection Network, Nigeria has appealed to the Oyo state judiciary to ensure justice is served in the case of an alleged child abuse where Maruf Abdullahi, a skit maker popularly known as Trinity Guy reportedly used a 10-year old girl for a skit with inappropriate sexual abuse content.
CPN said the appeal was as a result of the need to reduce the menace in the society
National president of the network, Mr. Olakunle Sanni made the appeal during a peaceful demonstration in front of the Oyo state family court, Iyaganku Area of Ibadan, where the case was to come up on Thursday, to seek justice for the minor.
The skit maker “Trinity Guy” on the 17th of December 2023 was alleged to have exploited a 10-year-old girl in Kuola Area of Ibadan by using her to produce a skit with inappropriate sexual content.
Mr. Olakunle while addressing newsmen on the latest development on the case, expressed displeasure on the recent twist to the initial petition filed, alleging that it has reduced the offence committed by the offender .
Also speaking after the adjournment of the case which was said to be the fourth adjournment, Oyo State coordinator of Child Protection Network, CPN, Dr Rosemary Odigbo tasked the judiciary to employ more judges for quick dispensation of justice in the state.
The state coordinator of CPN noted that several adjournment of cases might sometimes dissuade the plaintiff from following the case to a logical conclusion.
CPN noted that getting justice for the affected minor would serve as a deterrent to other members of the public and increase the awareness against child abuse in the state .
The commissioner for women affairs, Mrs Toyin Balogun who was also present at the premises of the family court, to register her solidarity for the group in getting justice, promised the group the state support at all times and adequate protection as well as the well being of all children in the state.
It would be recalled that the Oyo State Police Command had arrested and charged Mr Abdullahi alongside the parents of the victim with conspiracy, abuse and exploitation.
A family court in Iyaganku, Ibadan presided by Magistrate P. O. Adetuyibi, had in 2023 ordered the remand of the popular skitmaker and the parents of the child, Isiaka Ahmed and his wife, Rofiat Ahmed before later granting them bail.
