PHOTOS: Two-Term Oyo Lawmaker, Bimbo Oladeji Bags NUT Teachers’ Advocate Award

The immediate past Chairperson, Committee on Women Affairs and Social Inclusion in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji has been honoured with Advocate Teachers’ Award.

The lawmaker was honoured by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ogbomoso North Local Government Branch, alongside Senator representing Oyo North, Fatai Buhari, Registrar, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Prof. Olusegun Ajiboye, acting Vice Chancellor, Ladoke Akintola University, Prof. Rom Kalilu and Tutor General/PS, TESCOM, Ogbomoso Zone, Pastor Olatunde Suulola among other prominent indigenes of the town.

The award presentation, which was held at the Ogbomoso Township Stadium on Wednesday, was to commemorate the 2023 Educative Word Search Race.

Appreciating the NUT for finding her worthy of the recognition, the two-term lawmaker in the 8th and 9th assembly, said that she can not overlook the teachers because of the labour and sacrifices they make for the growth and development of the society.

While urging them to continue to give in their best to justify the commitment of the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde to the welfare of teachers, Hon. Oladeji implored them not to relent in their efforts in improving the standard and quality of education in Oyo State.

She also advised the students to at all times pay attention to the instructions giving to them by their teachers and parents for them to be reckoned with in the society.

Hon. Oladeji, who dedicated the award to teachers in Ogbomoso North and Oyo State in general, reiterated her commitment towards promoting the course of the teaching profession at all times.

In his opening remarks, NUT Chairman, Ogbomoso North Local Branch, Comrade Tunde Oladapo, said that the development of the education sector is a project that should not to left alone to the government.

He noted that the recognition awards being given to Hon. Oladeji and some other notable personalities was based on the sacrifice they have made to support the growth of education sector in the state.

“Education is not something government alone can dabble into and achieve a complete success, but it should be seen as a joint venture among the stakeholders. And whenever we see and individual or organization that is committed to the progress of education either through the pupils or the teachers, such an individual or organization needs to be appreciated, encouraged and celebrated. This is the reason we to give awards of excellence and appreciation to those we have found deserving, to appreciate and encourage them to do more hoping it will inspire other to join the train of educational development.”

Alhaji Monsur Ejide, in his appreciation speech, commended the leadership of NUT Ogbomoso North Local Branch for deeming it fit to recognize the people who have played important role in developing the education sector in state.

The elder statesman, who donated to the NUT on behalf of Senator Fatai Buhari, Hon. Bimbo Oladeji, Oba Tajudeen Abimbola Ameen and Oba Reuben Sina Amao, also commended the awardees for giving back to the society through education.

Mr. Bello Noah, who represented Senator Fatai Buhari, encouraged the teachers to always give in their best, saying that whatever the pupils learned today is what they are going to exhibit tomorrow.

He charged all Nigerians to make their positive impact no matter how little for the development, progress and betterment of the country.

Other awardees include Alhaji Sheu Babalola, Oba Tajudeen Abimbola Ameen, Oba Reuben Amao, Hon. Dr. Paul Ajagbe and Chairman, NUT, Oyo State, Comrade Raji Oladimeji Ismael
