PHOTOS: Our First Corporate Donation Came From You – Orphanage Proprietress Appreciates Bodija Unique Co-op Society
As part of its effort to achieve the ‘concern for community ‘ initiative, under the seven principles of cooperative society, the Bodija Unique Cooperative Investment and Credit Society Limited, Ibadan has donated food items, drugs, and mattresses of over half a million naira to New Dawn Orphanage Home.
Some of the items donated during the society’s visit to the Ejioku, Lagelu LG area home of the orphanage include, 7 mini mattresses, Bags of rice, beans, garri; pharmatical drugs, tubers of yams, noodles, packs of sugar, biscuits and drinks.
While speaking in an emotion laden voice, proprietress of the home and a retired civil servant under Oyo state Universal Basic Education, SUBEB, Mrs Olorunfunmi Ogunlari-Alao said the Unique Cooperative Society’s donation was the first support the orphanage had ever gotten from any corporate organization since its inception in 2014.
She said “Though we’re in April, we have received an August visitor, this is the first of its kind, our first corporate donation came from you. Maybe because of the distance to Ibadan or maybe because people don’t want to associate with these type of children”
Mrs Ogunlari-Alao who explained that the orphanage takes care of children with special needs, and has incorporated both vocational and academic training to bring out ability in their disability, appreciated Bodija Unique Cooperative Society for the gesture.
Earlier in an address, President, Bodija (Unique) Cooperative Investment and Credit Society Limited, Ibadan, Mr. Olufemi Adesope promised the society’s continuous engagement with the home in offering assistance to drive the vision of the orphanage.
He said “In our ‘Concern Community’ efforts, we are happy to be associated with New Dawn Orphanage. We commend your great efforts at supporting the development, empowerment and social integration of the residents of the orphanage towards self- reliance and national development. We are aware of the support the orphanage offers them in the area of Education, Medical, Rehabilitation, Protection, Shelter, Food and Nutrition and Social Support.
“We thank the management of the orphanage for the good work they are doing. We will ensure that our engagement with New Dawn Orphanage is on a continuous basis as we rise up, in our own little way, to offer our support assisting to drive the vision of founders even to greater reality.
“Remember that you are loved and valued, and that there are people who will always be there for you, Keep moving forward, and never let the challenges of life hold you back from achieving your dreams.”
He said the cooperative society which was registered on April 17, 2017 welcomes membership from civil servants, professionals in different endeavours, SME operators, technicians, artisans, and traders.
Also speaking, the pioneer president of the society, Mr. Olusegun Sanni who noted that members of the public should draw inspiration from the lives of the children said despite their conditions, there is strength in whatever they do.
Newsarena.ng reports that the Ibadan Unique Cooperative Society in 2023 did similar donation to Cheshire orphanage home, Ijokodo, Ibadan where food and other items were presented to them.
Some members of the cooperative society present during the donation were, the committee chairman, Mr Jide Akosile, Mr Paul Samuel, Mr. Ayorinde Dada, and Mr. Dayo Aregbesola.
