The Oyo State Market Leaders Council Bill, 2020 has been passed into law by the Oyo State House of Assembly.
Following the presentation of the House Committee on Commerce and Cooperatives’ report on Tuesday, the Bill was approved.
The establishment of the Babaloja and Iyaloja General offices at the State level, which must alternate among the administrative zones, is one of the Law’s main provisions.
The Oyo State House of Assembly must approve the appointment of the Babaloja and Iyaloja, which is mandated by law, from among the candidates nominated by the state’s seven administrative zones.
The Law outlines the duties of the Babaloja and Iyaloja, which include promoting peace and harmony among various communities in all markets throughout the State, providing market councils with advise on related issues, and carrying out any other duties that may be necessary.
The bill, according to Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, is intended to control the activities of the market leaders council in Oyo State.
Recall that on July 14, 2021, the Oyo State House of Assembly held a public hearing for all interested parties in order to ensure the creation of an inclusive law.
Hon. Akintunde Olajide of Lagelu State Constituency sponsored the bill.
