The members of Ogun State House of Assembly have solicited the support of traditional rulers to enable them to serve the people better.
The lawmakers, led by the speaker, Mr Oludaisi Elemide made the call during a familiarisation visit to the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewa land, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle at his Palace in Ilaro.
Mr Elemide explained that the purpose of the visit was to tap from the monarch’s wealth of experience and strengthen the lawmakers ties with their constituents in the bid to ensure quality representation.
Earlier, the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Mrs Bolanle Ajayi had applauded the Paramount Ruler for his steadfastness and resilience in serving the people.
Responding, Oba Olugbenle commended the State lawmakers for according due recognition to the traditional institution and encouraged them to work hard on assigning constitutional roles to the traditional institution in the country.
Oba Olugbenle maintained that the crisis resolution role being played by the traditional rulers had given a boost to Alternative Dispute Resolution strategies and helped to reduce the volume of cases that could have burdened the courts of law.
He also acknowledged the passage of the State Obas and Chiefs law, while requesting some supplements to the law to boost the disciplinary functions of the traditional institution.
