Makinde’s 2027 Presidential Ambition: Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse’s Misdirected Venom Against Nyesom Wike || Sola Abegunde.
I read the piece by Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Lagos state and I concluded that the PDP chieftain was either been deliberately economical with the truth or he lacks correct facts and information.
Dr. Pearse, in an open letter, addressed to Nyesom Wike, accused the former Rivers state Governor of declaring his determination to scuttle the presidential ambition of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state in 2027.
According to Dr. Adetokunbo, Wike declared at a meeting recently that he was determined to undermine Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition in 2027, just as he, Wike, destroyed Atiku’s campaign for the presidency in 2023.
As a result of the above statement credited to Nyesom Wike, Dr. Adetokunbo was of the opinion that the former Rivers state Governor, who is presently a Minister in the Cabinet of Tinubu revealed once again, ” the obnoxious characteristic traits which have come to define his personality”.
With due respect to Dr. Adetokunbo whom I have never met personally, I strongly disagree with that statement to the extent of attempting to demonize Wike and glorifying Seyi Makinde.
I do not know how and why Dr. Pearse will want us to believe that Wike alone is the destroyer of the PDP.
Whatever Nyesom Wike is guilty of, Seyi Makinde is equally in the same bracket with the former Rivers state Governor.
Where was Dr. Pearse when Seyi Makinde joined Wike and the former Governors of Abia, Enugu and Benue states to form the now, to Dr. Adetokunbo, infamous G-5?
Where was he, when Makinde, as not only the poster boy of the G-5 but also as the spokesperson of the Group was delivering the doses of poisonous messages that killed the PDP?
At the time, they thought they were shooting down Atiku, but they were practically digging a grave that would consume the platform that threw them up as Leaders.
Now, personal greed has put the Group asunder and Dr. Pearse thinks we should just forget about the involvement of Seyi Makinde in the demistification of the once largest Party in Africa?
No. We won’t.
Both of Governor Seyi Makinde and Nyesom Wike are the biggest beneficiaries of the activities of the G-5.
Governor Makinde got rewarded with a second term as Governor of Oyo state for his involvement in the destruction of the PDP.
If he is cool with that, he must be prepared to accept the consequences of being seen as one of those who destroyed the PDP.
Wike alone can not bear the stigma. It was a joint action and the responsibilities must be shared.
In fact, I am always surprised any time I heard or read about Governor Seyi Makinde wanting to be president of Nigeria under the PDP.
The first question I ask those who say this, is, which of the PDP?
The same PDP that Governor Makinde traded, demonized and destroyed to achieve a second term in office?
God is great. No matter how cunning you think you are. No matter how smart you think you are, if God still wants to make you look stupid, He will ensure it happens.
How on earth do you explain a situation where a small boy who had burnt down his father’s house because of greed and anger, decides thereafter, to decorate the same house which is already in ruins?
Yorubas have a saying that if a nursing mother decided to throw her baby to the soldier ants in anger, by the time she calmed down, the soldier ants must have eaten the baby. ( Alabiyamo to binu ju Omo sinu agiyan eerun, bi inu alabiyamo ba ro tan, inu eerun ko nii ro).
The soldier ants have been busy eating the Party that Makinde and his co travelers threw to the soldier ants in 2023.
If Wike decides it is not yet time to retrieve the carcass, bad as it is, can you blame him in isolation?
Wike on his own couldn’t have been able to drag the PDP to this terrible situation.
He had help and those who helped him must at all times have their names mentioned whenever he is being condemned.
Now, it is clear that Governor Makinde is interested in the presidency in 2027.
We can now see the reasons why he is always quick to jump at the president.
Personally, I have no problems with anyone jumping at Tinubu for genuine reasons.
He asked for the job and he has repeatedly said that no one should pity him.
I will not.
However, I think Governor Seyi Makinde has a lot of moral burdens to discharge before having the audacity to criticize Tinubu whose job he is eyeing in 2027.
Tinubu have kept saying that since he became president, having removed subsidies on Petroleum products, he has increased the monthly Allocations for the states and the Local Governments.
In fact, we are being made to understand that monthly Allocations have tripled under the Tinubu Administration.
Governor Makinde must speak to this and when he does, his voice must be very clear about what we had before and what he is taking now.
Not only that, he must tell the public in concrete terms, how the increase in monthly Allocations has helped him govern Oyo state.
From this moment onwards, his criticism of Tinubu must be supported with facts, verifiable facts, data and figures.
We all know, as Yorubas, that the dog of our rival can not kill a big game. ( Aja ota eni kii pa odu oya).
I saw that Dr. Pearse talked a lot about how Governor Makinde has turned Oyo state to an African London.
Dr. Pearse, by the sound of his name, must be a proper Lagosian.
I doubt if he had ever been to some remote parts of Oyo state.
He must have been reading so much about the propaganda of how the citizens of Ogun state have been agitating and going to prayer Mountains to swap Seyi Makinde of Oyo state for Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state.
Little will Dr. Pearse know that in Oyo state, Governor Makinde has completely killed the 33 Local Governments just as he and others have destroyed the PDP.
I wonder if Dr. Pearse know anything about the Agbowo shopping complex.
How would he know that a 48 klm Road between Ibadan and Ibarapa is taking the wonder Governor till eternity to rehabilitate?
I saw a video of the president in embryo at Osun state yesterday where he was admonishing the Federal Government against anarchy.
I agree with him completely. The Federal Government and the Osun state Government must avoid anarchy.
However, to Governor Makinde, I say, healer, heal thyself.
Exactly what did you do in Ibarapa East in 2021 during the Local Government Election?
Did Auxiliary not lead his Team of PMS thugs to unleash mayhem killing four people in the process?
Was the same not repeated last year except that no lives were lost in the violence of last year but the Ibarapa East APC chairman almost lost his life ?
We are waiting for Governor Makinde to launch his presidential bid. When he does, a lot of issues would be ripe for discussion.
In the time being, I wish both himself and his Team of ” A o merin joba” well in their bid to resurrect a Party they deliberately sacrificed for personal greed in 2023.
I am surprised that up till now, Governor Seyi Makinde has not deemed it fit to show remorse and tender an apology to the PDP for his inglorious involvement in the activities of the G-5.
