Oyo state government is to set up a committee that will oversee the upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola Airport, Alakia, Ibadan into international status
Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed this at the 1446/2024 Hijrah luncheon held at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan to commemorate islamic new year calendar.
The governor, who expressed optimism that pilgrims from the state would be airliftifted from Ibadan to holy land next year, said the project would be completed within 18 months .
While commending Alhaji Azeem Atere led Muslim Welfare Board for a hitch free Hajj exercise and his effeciency in handling the board, Governor Makinde said his administration would continue to do things in the best interest of the state.
Governor Makinde tasked the islamic scholars to begin the islamic new year with good things, believing that the challenges facing the state and Nigeria would be summounted.
The chairman of the occasion, who is also the former Central Council of Ibadan Indegene CCII, Chief Bayo Oyero urged religious leaders to teach Muslim on the significance of the Hijrah as well as the days of the islamic calender
