Int’l Youth Day: HOSEC Foundation Admonishes Govt. To Prioritize Grassroots Sports Development

....Begins Leadership Camp For Teenagers On 26th August.

In celebration of this year’s International Youth Day, a counselling psychologist and Executive Director, Hope For Second Chance Foundation, HOSEC has said the theme for this year, “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” underscores the critical role of young people in driving societal progress.

Mrs Otesile hinted that the theme also aligned with the mission that Hosec Foundation is deeply committed to.

Otesile made this known in a statement issued on Monday in commemoration of the day noting that every young person, no matter their background, deserves the chance to thrive.

She said Nigeria has abundant untapped potentials in her young population, stressing the need for the country to do more to develop sports especially at the local levels.

She said ” It is quite disheartening that most of the athletes that represented our country are not home grown. It’s almost like if you want to thrive in sports and be recognized by the Nigeria Athletics federation, you have to first Leave Nigeria and thrive abroad.

“We call on the Government at all levels—federal, state, and local—to prioritize real sports development rid of corruption and political reward systems, create sports academies in tandem with global best practices, where real talents can be groomed early.

“We call on the Government to establish youth friendly centres and implement policies that support creative and scientific and technological explorations and expressions for a sustainable future. We must always remember that a country is as strong and sophisticated as its youth population.

“By providing adequate resources and infrastructure, and the political will, the government can ensure that these youth have access to quality education, mental health services, and vocational training, which are essential for their development and empowerment.

“We also urge other stakeholders, including the private sector, civil society organizations, and international partners, to join us in this vital mission. Collaboration is key to creating a supportive environment where youths can heal from their past traumas, build resilience, and contribute to the future of our nation.

“Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable society where the Nigerian youth has the opportunity to thrive.

International Youth Day is an annual event that celebrates the contributions of young people to society and acknowledges the challenges they face. Hosec Foundation is dedicated to empowering young adults, helping them overcome adversity, and equipping them with the tools and support they need to lead fulfilling lives.

Otesile said at HOSEC Foundation, “we believe in the power of young adults to transform their own lives and the world around them. International Youth Day is a reminder that every young person, no matter their background, deserves the chance to thrive.

“We are committed to equip and empower the young adult to become a change leader. We understand it importance of setting the right foundations for or youth. Therefore, as part of our activities, we are holding a 5-day Grooming and Leadership camp for young male adults from the 26th – 31st August.
