Int’l Men’s Day: USAID BA-N, Solutions FM Organize Free Medical Outreach For Ibadan Residents (PHOTOS)

In commemoration of this year’s International Men’s Day, USAID Breakthrough Action Nigeria in partnership with Solutions 93.9 FM Ibadan have provided a one-day free healthcare services to residents of Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

Our correspondent reports that the residents, both male and female, many of them who were elderly, trooped out in numbers to benefit from the exercise which featured health talk, malaria and Tuberculosis test, Covid 19 Vaccination, Blood pressure and blood sugar check as well as free drugs.

Speaking during a brief sensitization talk, director of public health, Ibadan Southwest local government health authority, Dr Kunle Adedoyin said it is unfortunate that men do not take priority in their health, causing avoidable death among them.

Dr Adedoyin appealed to men to seek medical help promptly, avoid alcohol, drug abuse and other lifestyles that are capable of ending ones life prematurely.

Also speaking, Oyo state coordinator, USAID Breakthrough Action Nigeria, Mrs Oluwatoyin Afachung while advising men not to give up on themselves despite the socio-economic situation of the country, urged them to visit the nearest health centre to check their health status at all times.

Mrs Afachung said there is the need for government to prioritize provision of employment opportunities for men to ease the burden of the current economic reality.

She said “Government should ensure jobs are available, so that our men would have access to jobs. We know Oyo state government is doing something about agriculture, so that we all can go back to farm, men should be provided with jobs so that they can provide for their families”

Reacting, the Chief Operating officer, Solutions 93.9 FM Ibadan, Mrs Funmi Chima, said the aim of the Free Medical outreach was part of the station’s Coperate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the Oke-Ado community and in Ibadan south west local government at large.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with newsarena.ng expressed gratitude to USAID Breakthrough Action Nigeria and Solutions FM, Ibadan, describing the medical outreach as a huge support during a trying time.

International Men’s Day is celebrated annually on the 19th of November, aimed at encouraging, supporting and raising awareness on the plights of men.
