Flying Eagles of Nigeria began their FIFA Under 20 World cup campaign with a 2 – 1 victory over Dominican Republic.
The Flying Eagles went behind in the 23rd minute after Edison Azcona converted a penalty to put Dominican Republic in front.
However, Nigeria got back into the game when defender De Pena Rosario put the ball in his own net to make the game 1 – 1.
In the 70th minute, Forward Samson Lawal took advantage of a loose ball to make the score 2 – 1 and give the Flying Eagles a win in their opening Group D match.
In other matches played on Sunday, Italy defeated Brazil 3-2, Senegal lost 1-0 to Japan while Columbia beat Israel 2-1.
