Block Revenue Leakages To Meet Yearnings Of Nigerians – Oyo Reps Member, Odidiomo Urges Executive

A house Of Representatives Member, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide fondly called “Odidiomo” has emphasized urgent need for the executive to block all revenue loopholes affecting federal government treasury, saying such funds will help the present administration to attend to the yearnings of the people.

The lawmaker representing Ibadan North West/South West Federal constituency gave the advise while speaking during a media chat with journalists at his residence, Ibadan, Oyo state capital, noting that the revenue leakages will continue to have negative impact on government if not immediately checked.

Hon Olajide Odidiomo who is the chairman, house committee on ICT also advocated for the strengthening of the civil service sector through funding, training and better welfare packages so as to encourage better performance and productivity.

The lawmaker who believed that both the federal and state civil service could perform better if properly renumerated by the executive, expressed confidence that issues such as corruption, bribery and non challant attitude by civil servants would be reduced to the barest minimum when it is well empowered.

While speaking on the proposed sixty-two thousand naira new minimum for civil servants in Nigeria, Hon. Olajide said he has always made his position known at the floor of the house of representatives, noting that the proposed wage does not reflect the present day reality in Nigeria.

The two term House Of Representatives lawmaker said, to discourage corrupt practices among civil servants, a living wage should be approved, to allow workers meet up with the present inflation and economic challenges facing Nigerians.

He said “I’ve said it countless times, I’ve also said it during one of my contributions on the floor of the house, we can’t be buying a bag of rice for over 75,000 naira and expect civil servants to earn 62,000 naira.”

“If we don’t want to turn our girls to prostitute and our boys doing fraud, something must be done urgently to ameliorate the hardship we face at the moment”

While speaking on his journey into politics, the grassroots politician said his passion to make life more meaningful for the less privileged, the vulnerable at communities and to actualize a society of the dream of all patriotic Nigerians served as a motivation.

He however pledged his continued commitment to delivering dividends of democracy to the good people of Ibadan Northwest/South West Federal constituency, Oyo state and Nigeria in general, adding that he will continue to place priority on people’s wellbeing.
