Edo Governor Appoints Nollywood Actress As Special Adviser

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of renowned Nollywood actress and philanthropist Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, and made available to journalists in Benin.

According to the statement, the appointment takes immediate effect and is aimed at strengthening citizens’ engagement with government policies and programmes across the state.

Mrs Johnson-Okojie, one of Nollywood’s most celebrated figures, is an accomplished actress, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, with a career spanning nearly two decades.
She has featured in over 200 films and has earned several awards and nominations, including recognition at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and other prestigious platforms.
Beyond her contributions to the entertainment industry, she is widely known for her humanitarian and advocacy efforts through the Mercy Johnson-Okojie Foundation, where she has championed initiatives in women’s empowerment, child welfare, education support, and healthcare outreach.
In her new role, the actress is expected to leverage her wide public appeal, communication expertise, and grassroots reach to promote civic awareness, enhance public participation, and serve as a bridge between the government and the people.
The state government noted that the appointment underscores Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to harnessing the expertise, credibility, and goodwill of distinguished Nigerians to drive the vision of a prosperous and united Edo State.
The statement added that the administration remains focused on inclusive governance and effective communication as key pillars for sustainable development in the state.
