An educationalist, Dr Olajumoke Akere, says cybersecurity is no longer the sole responsibility of Information Technology (IT) professionals but require the commitment and active participation of all stakeholders to address.
Akere,who is the Nigeria Director of Special project African Professionals of Australia ( APA) stated this during the commemoration of Cybersecurity Awareness Month of the organisation at the weekend.
The theme of the celebration is “Cyber Security:Assessment and Response for Professionals,Organisations and Government.
She said that the importance of cybersecurity could not be overemphasised in this age because technology has woven itself into the fabric of daily lives of everyone.
Akere said that as every individual embraced the conveniences and opportunities presented by the digital age, they often found themselves facing an ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
“In an age where technology has woven itself into the fabric of our daily lives, the importance of cybersecurity cannot be overstated.
“As we embrace the conveniences and opportunities presented by the digital age, we also find ourselves facing an ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
“We need to discuss and assess the current cybersecurity landscape. As we confront an array of cyber threats, from data breaches to ransomware attacks, it is essential that we take stock of our collective vulnerabilities and examine our preparedness,”s she said.
Akere said that it was when everyone understood the scope and nature of these challenges that they could better protect their digital assets and sensitive information.
The director said that it was essential that everyone is empower, fortify their defenses and respond effectively to tackle cybersecurity challenges with confidence and resilience when the incidents happen.
“Collaboration is key, as we must work together to create a safer digital environment for all,’ she said.
