2027: Accord Welcomes Makinde’s Former Special Adviser, Fatai Owoseni •  Declares Governorship Ambition

Accord, a political party in Oyo state has warmly welcome a former Commissioner of Police in Lagos and Benue States who also served as Governor Makinde’s special adviser on security, Fatai Owoseni.

At the official welcoming event, CP Fatai Owoseni declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election on the platform of the party.

Owoseni, who recently resigned as the Special Adviser on Security to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund, said his decision to join the Accord Party was aimed at strengthening the party ahead of future elections in the state.

He stated that he would deploy his vast experience from the police service and public office to help the party achieve electoral success in the coming polls.

In his words: “It is not an hidden fact that I have expressed my aspiration to see what impact I can make in the state, especially to consolidate what the past governors have done in this state, especially Governor Seyi Makinde; the face-lift he has given this state in terms of so many things, infrastructure, social and economic development.

“Everybody has said you don’t even look like a policeman. Can you do politics? It is not as if politics is dirty. Some people in politics are dirty and they make it look as if politics is dirty. Yes, you will not be able to maintain the integrity. They will rubbish you. It is you that should impact wherever you are. It is not that environment that should impact you. So, everything boils down to, who are you? What are you aiming at?”

According to him, governor Makinde has made a lot of impact on road infrastructure and other major sector, which need to be sustained.

“There are roads that have not been touched in 50 years that are now coming up. He’s been able to connect all the senatorial districts together. But should we allow this to waste? So, we want value addition. This state can be self-sustaining. I am telling you that. Life can be better for our people,” he stated.

Speaking further, Owoseni dismissed suggestions that his background in law enforcement limited his political capacity.

“Because I am a policeman does not mean I do not have political experience. I have had a long career and have decided that after my retirement, I am going back to my state to serve my people.

“And on the basis of that, I have expressed my aspiration to say, okay, let us be part of governance, what is going on in the state. And to me, I keep on saying value addition, continuous service to humanity.

“The 35 years of my life that I spent in the police is about service to humanity. And in retirement, this is almost seven years and I have remained here. Being true with the state, with where I come from, my state of birth, to bring back all those things we have done in so many other places. And that is what has kept us here up to this time.

“Like I said, I have been part of this state, and of course, the governance of the state. You wouldn’t believe that in this our secretariat, where the governor’s office is. If you go to the Ministry of Justice, as far back as when late Rotimi Williams was the Attorney General of the Western Region, in that building, they had an elevator, a lift. If, as of that time, they had such a thing, then we should be ashamed that 2026, some people don’t even know that there is such a thing there. So, are we not supposed to be progressing?
