World Malaria Day: We’ve Reconstituted Malaria Technical Working Group – Oyo Health Commissioner

Oyo state commissioner for health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi says the ministry has reconstituted the Malaria Technical Working Group (mTWG) to ensure the functionality of the malaria laboratory for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Ajetunmobi made this known on Thursday at the 2024 world malaria day celebration, held at Molete Primary Health centre, Ibadan.

The commissioner explained that the new mTWG now includes people from academia, MoH, WDC, the private sector, partners, Agencies, noting that the intention of the rejig was to engage the professionals to bring about innovations that would provide solutions to challenges emanating from malaria control.

“To ensure the ownership and usage of ITN by all households in Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde has decided to release the counterpart fund as part of our commitment to the forthcoming Net campaign, Also, under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde and in collaboration with partners, all fever cases are tested and treated for malaria free of charge.

“As we all know, an coordination system must be implemented for any programme to make a meaningful impact. To this end, the Ministry under my watch has taken decisive steps to restructure the coordination system by calling all the programme managers and partners, including the ones for malaria, to ensure all public health programmes are under one roof of coordination for judicious and effective use of resources.

Dr. Ajetunmobi said stakeholders must translate their commitments into action through effective implementation of evidence-based interventions and policies.

“This means ensuring equitable access to malaria control services, engaging communities as active partners in the fight against malaria, and holding ourselves accountable for results.

Newsarena.ng reports that the ceremony gave the World Health Organization, USAID Breakthrough Action Nigeria and other development partners the opportunity to sensitize expectant mothers, children, community and religious leaders on malaria prevention and control.

Oyo state coordinator, Breakthrough Action Nigeria, Mrs Oluwatoyin Afachung appealed to members of the public to prioritize their health care, urging people to keep hygienic environment to avoid factors that breads mosquitos that spread malaria.

In celebration of the day, our correspondent also report that the rotary club, under the “Little Steps Big Help Project” donated over 100 Insecticide Treated Net to expectant mothers within the metropolis.

Oyo state Chairman of the project, Adedotun Amori said rotary action group for maternal and child health was collaborating with the state government to provide malaria test and treatment for residents.

Highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of Insecticide Treated Net, ITN to pregnant mothers
