World Environment Day: Town Planner, Olaide Oladiran Urges Residents To Adhere To Environmental Standards

Oyo state chairperson, Association Of Women Town Planners In Nigeria, Dr Olaide Oladiran has called for an end to the indiscriminate disposal of waste, especially plastic waste into the environment.
Dr. Oladiran made the call in an interview with newsarena.ng in Ibadan on the occasion of this year’s World Environment Day, with the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”

She said the indiscriminate dumping of used plastics into drainages, rivers and water banks are dangerous and fall short of environmental standards, especially during raining season.

The town planner said as much as the Oyo state government was putting measures in place to avert flood, residents of the state must adhere to proper environmental procedures.
Dr. Oladiran advocated reduction in the use of plastics and increase in sensitization on recycling of waste, to encourage waste to wealth ideology among Nigerians.
Speaking on her plans to take the Oyo state association of women town planners to greater height, Dr. Oladiran solicited the support of members and partnership of organizations and individuals.
She said the increase in membership drive, strong advocacy for the profession and motivation for certification of members are among the top priorities of her administration.
