Why I’m Qualified To Succeed Late Akinremi Jagaban In Green Chamber – Reps’ Aspirant, Aderonmu ‘Symbol’ Speaks On Ambition

The House of representatives aspirant for Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye election, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo state, Hon. Aderonmu Sahid Adeshina popularly known as Symbol has revealed reasons he should be given the party’s ticket to contest and represent the good people of the constituency at the lower chamber

Hon. Aderonmu ‘Symbol’ who was the Chief Detail to former governor Abiola Ajimobi made the revelation while featuring on a special political programme on Solutions 93.9 FM in Ibadan.

Hon. ‘Symbol’ who again used the opportunity of the programme to express his heartfelt condolences to the entire Ibadan North Federal Constituency and family of the late Hon. Olaide Akinremi who until his death was a sitting lawmaker and represented the constituency, describing his passing as a deep tragedy.

The young grassroots politician said though he has not being in the House of representatives as a lawmaker, he was very familiar with the workings of the national assembly, governance and politics.

“First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Hon. Akinremi Olaide and the entire Ibadan North Federal Constituency. His passing is a deep tragedy, and I pray that God grants him eternal peace.

“However, life must go on, and the vacant seat needs to be filled. Although I am not currently a member of the House of Representatives, I am familiar with its workings.

“In 2019, I contested for the ticket under our great party and initially received it. However, along the way, our leader, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, along with other party leaders, called on me, and the ticket was reassigned to Hon. Akinremi Olaide. I respected the party’s decision, did not challenge it in court or elsewhere, and gave my full support to him as a loyal party member in both 2019 and 2023.

“In 2023, I chose not to run because I didn’t want to create any distractions. I believed that as a second-term representative, he would gain more privileges and be in a better position to deliver greater dividends of democracy to our people.

“His performance in his second term indeed demonstrated this, as he gained more experience and influence to serve the constituency effectively. I also did not contest in 2023 because I assumed that after his second term, he might want to move on, having served remarkably, and then I could aspire for the party’s ticket. But fate has its plans, and I feel it is time for me to step in now. Even though I did not anticipate it happening so soon, we must accept God’s will and learn from life’s events.

Aderonmu ‘Symbol’ said being a grassroots politician, he was aware of the needs of the people across the wards under the federal constituency, from ward 1 to 12, “I understand what the people in Beere, Dandaru, Mokola, Samonda, Bodija, Sango, Idito, Benbo, Sabo, Polytechnic Ibadan, University of Ibadan, and other areas require.”

He also noted that the empowerment of youths, both financially and through skill development, is essential.

Aderonmu further explained saying “there is always room for improvement, and I believe that with my experience and unwavering commitment to our great party, the people and the party will support my bid to represent them. Having worked in a management capacity with two former governors, the late Sen. Abiola Ajimobi and Governor Babatunde Fashola, I am confident that I am qualified, experienced, loyal, and capable of representing my people effectively and efficiently.

“All sectors of our community will feel the positive impact of my quality representation. One of my priorities will be to sponsor a bill on technical education, as today’s graduates need practical skills that can enable them to become employers, not just job seekers.” He added

When asked about his opinion on the present administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Hon Aderonmu ‘Symbol’ said it is too early to provide a conclusive assessment of the Tinubu administration.

He said “We had a four-year mandate, and we are only about 15 months in. Economic experts suggest that the policies of the current government will yield benefits in the long term.

“However, the average person on the street may express that there is hardship, leading to negative opinions about the government. This hardship is temporary. Ideally, our forefathers should have faced these challenges to pave the way for a better life for us, but they delayed it until now.

“Asiwaju has taken bold steps to implement necessary policies that will benefit us and future generations. As they say, you have to break an egg to make an omelette. Every policy comes with its challenges, but these will soon pass. We need to be patient and give this government time to deliver.” He concluded
