Just as the Governor of Nigeria’s Apex bank, Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Godwin Emiefele announced on Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday unveiled the newly redesigned 200, 500 and 1,000 naira notes.
President Buhari unveiled the new notes at the Presidential Villa in Abuja shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council Meeting.
Recall that the CBN Governor had reversed the earlier plan to unveil the new notes on the 15th of December, 2022, stating that the Bank would no longer wait till then.
Emiefele also stressed that the January 31st, 2023 deadline for all current 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes to be deposited in the bank was more than enough and there would be no extension as being clamoured for in some quarters.
