School Feeding: How Alleged Officer Recruited Fake Schools, Cooks Into NHGSFP In Nasarawa

The Nassarawa State Program Manager of the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP), “name witheld,” who is an appointee of the state government, has been knowingly inserting fake schools and cooks into the NHGSFP in order to collect enormous sums for nonexistent vendors, according to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (FMHADMSD).

According to FMHADMSD, the suspect was captured and afterwards reported to the State Governor based on the active surveillance of the project task team.

The Nassarawa State Governor has suspended the State program manager and referred the matter to law enforcement, according to a statement by one of the Monitoring Leads of the NHGSFP, Marcus Williams, which was made available to journalists. The statement also stated that the investigation is still ongoing.

Williams expressed regret that, in spite of the offense, preliminary investigations had shown that some Nassarawa State Government officials had allegedly tried to have the suspended program manager reinstated. She added that FMHADMSD had resisted and had sought a certificate of clearance from law enforcement.

“We wish to clarify that FMHADMSD, not the Nasarawa state administration as implied in the media, found the fraud, and the suspect has not been restored.

“A new Permanent Secetrary has been appointed by the Nasarawa state government, the suspect deprived genuine beneficiaries their right to nutrition and education thereby violating this right as enshrined in the CRL of Nasarawa State 2005.”

But he urged individuals to report any fraud, misrepresentation, or compromise of the NHGSFP in order to support the efforts of the federal government, through FMHADMSD, to provide children with the greatest possible education and nutritional support.
