Ranti Oluwemimo Becomes First Oyo Female ASUSS’s Chairperson • New Executives Inaugurated In Ibadan

Academic Staff Union Of Secondary Schools Nigeria, ASUSS, Oyo State chapter has sworn in its new executives that would steer the affairs of the Union for the next four years.

At The event which took place during the union’s meeting, held at Queen Of Apostles, Oluyoro Ibadan, Comrade Ranti Gbenle Oluwemimo emerged chairperson of the Union, taking over from Comrade Bolaji Olorunosebi, while Comrade Ayo Adekunle became the secretary.

Administering oath of office on the executive, National Chairman, Academic Staff Union Of Secondary Schools Nigeria, Com. Samuel Omuaji charged the new crop of leaders to redouble the efforts of the past administrations to bring ASUSS to limelight in Oyo state.

Represented by the secretary-general and Chairman, Ekiti state chapter of ASUSS, Com. Olusola Adigun, the national president said the new executive should hinge its focus on four cardinal points.

Com. Omuaji said the Oluwemimo led exco should be committed to ASUSS, be Available and loyal to the course of secondary school teachers as well as showing high level of competency in leadership.

He, however called on the Oyo state government to give ASUSS the total recognition it deserved by allowing monies of union members deducted from their salaries to be remitted to the coffers of the Union.

He said the new executive should not allow personal grievances to affect the general wellbeing of members..

In a goodwill message, Oyo state chairman, Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Olusola Ogundiran expressed disappointment at the dispute between teachers unions and said the common enemy to unions should be the employer saying no union should stand against one another.

Ogundiran urged members to give both financial and moral support to the executive and be ready to fight for the survival of the union in Oyo state.

In her acceptance speech, Comrade Ranti Oluwemimo who happened to be the first female Chairperson of ASUSS in Oyo state said her new assignment was a call to service.

Comrade Oluwemimo who thanked the Oyo state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde for his giant strides in the education sector said government should see ASUSS as partners in progress when demands and observations are presented before it.

She is presently the secretary, Oyo state Trade Union Congress and a member of the immediate past executive of ASUSS in the state.

Present at the event were pioneer chairman of the union in Oyo state, Mr KEHINDE Olawale, representative of the commissioner for information, Oyo state Head Of service, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, other labour unions and ASUSS executive from Delta and Ekiti states.
