Muslims have been enjoined to strive for the realization and sustenance of mission of Islam for humanity.
Former Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, Professor Afiz Oladosu, who affirmed that the mission of Islam cannot be separated from the mission of prosperity, made the call while delivering a lecture titled “Creating A Pathway for Sustainable Development: Muslim on Call, organized by the Political Awareness Group, PAG during its 2023 Delegates’ Conference/Inauguration of New Executive Council in Ibadan.
Represented by the Head, Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, Professor Ibrahim Usman, Professor Oladosu stressed that Muslims are the custodians of sustainable development, urging Islamic organizations and individuals to ensure there is compulsory universal education for all Muslims to banish poverty in the society and ensure decent living.
He also advised parents to equip their children with adequate knowledge for them to take their rightful positions in future, while challenging those in positions of authority to mobilize their colleagues for national sustainable development plan.
Chairman on the occasion, Senator Kola Balogun represented by Alhaji Haruna Adebayo urged the new PAG executives to run the affairs of the association with fairness, justice and equity.
In a remark, the chairman, PAG, Board of Trustees and former Secretary to Oyo state government, Alhaji Waheed Olajide while advising the immediate past executives to reflect on their activities while steering the affairs of the association, called on the newly inaugurated executives to work towards taking the association to greater heights, praying Allah to assist them succeed.
Delivering his goodwill message, the Secretary, PAG BOT, Professor Abideen Olaiya encouraged tasked the PAG executives on improving on achievements of their predecessor and focus on objectives of good governance and welfare for Muslims.
In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated PAG chairman Oyo state chapter, Dr Luqman Fasasi promised to be devoted to the service of Ummah in collaboration with the national body of the association.
Highpoints of the programme included the dissolution of the out-gone executives, inauguration of the new executives, presentation of letter of appointment and administration of oath of office on the new executive council.
