Two women have been detained by Ogun State Police Command for reportedly kidnapping a baby boy who was just one week old.
According to information gathered, the women were detained by police on July 25 after one of the suspects, Chinyere Nwozu, 53, was spotted with the infant at around 9 a.m. on that day, raising suspicions among residents because she was unable to breastfeed the child.
She admitted during questioning that she had paid 500,000 naira to one Ngozi Akaeme, who lives in the Agege neighborhood of Lagos State, for the child.
According to Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokeswoman for the Ogun police, “Upon receiving the report, SP Dahiru Saleh, DPO of Sango Ota, directed his detectives to the spot where the woman was swiftly detained.”
She revealed that “she actually bargained with the biological mother of the baby who consented to sell the baby” after Akaeme was arrested.
The original mother of the child has not been found, according to the Ogun State Spokesperson.
Oyeyemi disclosed that CP Lanre Bankole, the police commissioner, had ordered that the two suspects be sent to the State CIID for additional investigation and potential prosecution.
