The Nigeria police force Oyo State Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a stolen motorcycle in Ibadan.
A statement signed by the command’s public relations officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade says the suspect, Shafiu Nuhu, allegedly attacked a commercial motorcyclist, Muhammadu Kamilu, with an iron hammer and made away with his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle along Adeniji Estate, Apata, last Thursday, July 16.
Acting on credible information from a member of the public, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit swiftly arrested the suspect and recovered the stolen motorcycle, with registration number AJW 842 QU, as well as the iron hammer allegedly used in the attack.
The victim, Muhammadu Kamilu, sustained injuries during the attack, while a good Samaritan, Nathaniel Ibrahim, who attempted to rescue him, was also injured.
Both men were taken to a nearby hospital, where they received medical treatment.
DSP Ayanlade explained further that the suspect confessed during interrogation to operating as a lone armed robber targeting commercial motorcyclists in Ibadan and its environs.
Meanwhile, Investigations are ongoing to determine his involvement in other robbery cases.
