The speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has called for a true Federalism where states would have control over mineral resources in the states.
Rt Hon Ogundoyin wrote this on his social media handles in respect to the ongoing Legislative Process In Government Study Visit to Canada”, Facilitated by the Nigeria Conference Of Speakers.
He said “Through last week, I had the privilege to attend and to represent Oyo State Parliament at “The Legislative Process In Government Study Visit to Canada” (Facilitated by the Nigeria Conference Of Speakers).”
“This event presented us with the opportunity to compare and contrast both system of Government (Canada & Nigeria) while also highlighting the strength and weaknesses of both system.”
“In my summation, I propose that Nigeria should practice “True Federalism” – as this will ensure that each state maximizes its potential to meet up with the growing demand & population and this will lead to a healthy competition between states hereby putting Nigeria on course for rapid development”.
“The control of mineral resources, security, education, power, aviation, infrastructure, taxes e.t.c by states rather then fedreal government will bring infrastructural development & dividend of democracy closer to the people as practiced in developed countries.”
“I look forward to a new Nigeria and I will ensure I play my role in whatever capacity to ensure we have a Great Country.”
