PHOTOS: Oyo Assembly Lawmaker, Waheed Akintayo Interacts With Constituents, Flags Off “Light Up Constituency Project”

In his continued efforts to interact with constituents, the lawmaker representing Oluyole state constituency, in the Oyo State House of assembly, Hon Waheed Akintayo, fondly called “Ilumoka Presenter” has met with residents of over thirteen communities in Olunde, Ibadan.

At the meeting held on Saturday, 31st May, 2025 at Olunde community primary school, Ibadan, Hon Akintayo flagged off “Light Up My Constituency Project” and immediately handed over ten (10) solar powered street lights to the communities under the first phase of the project.

Hon. Akintayo who used the opportunity to reel out few out of many of his achievements which include facilitation of jobs for constituents and a health centre at Onila through CSDA, provision of free transportation for school pupils, ongoing construction of a police station at Muslim, projected to be commissioned before the end of this administration and raising of different motions of public concern on the floor of the house.

Hon. Akintayo said “It is always good to engage with our people which I have been doing in my constituency. Oluyole state constituency is big, we have 10 wards under this constituency, so we move around as possible as we can. So, I decided to flag off my light up project from Olunde general in ward 7, which comprises of 13 big communities.

“It is a known fact that there are differences in the constitutional roles of the executive and the legislature, a lawmaker and a local government chairman. My responsibility is to make laws while the executive is to executive projects, but I will always go extra miles to do what will make life meaningful for my people and facilitate initiatives that will bring dividend of democracy to my constituency.

“I’ll install the solar powered street lights for them, anywhere they agreed to put them, hopefully some will be erected at the Olunde community primary school and some at the main market for proper illumination and security. I urge them to maintain and make judicious use of them.

“Like they all know, I am a lawmaker that is accessible and my door is always opened for my people. Many of them reach out to me always and I promise to continue to engage with my constituents.”

The broadcaster cum lawmaker who praised governor Seyi Makinde for his support and contributions to the socio-economic and security development of the state also pledged to provide some security gadgets for members of the vigilante group operating around the communities.

Earlier before the symbolic presentation of the street lights, the president, Olunde General, Mogaji Salaudeen Kamaldeen who agreed that leadership was never an easy task especially at a time when everyone has to adjust to the economic reality in the country, commended Hon Akintayo for the visit and thank him for the gesture.

Also speaking, a community leader and chairman, Community Development Council in Oluyole local government, Chief Raimi Gbolagade hailed Hon. Akintayo for his numerous initiatives and programmes that are bringing developments to Oluyole constituency.

Chief Gbolagade also solicited more support for the lawmaker from residents of the communities, for him to do more for the progress of Oluyole.

In attendance at the meeting were Chairmen of communities, joint executives of Olunde General, PDP executives at the ward and local government levels, ward 7 councillor and other PDP stakeholders.
