Folashade Oluwafemiayo of Nigeria has smashed her own world record in the women’s over 86 kg parapowerlifting event, making history as the first para-athlete to lift 166 kg.
No doubt her current WR of 165 kg in the ongoing paralympics 2024 games in Paris is an improvement as she also improved the record by earning a gold medal.
Oluwafemiayo puts on an amazing display, increasing Nigeria’s total medal haul in the Paralympics to seven.
Her win comes on the heels of the Super Eagles’s AFCON qualifier match against Benin Republic.
Recall that, Flora Ugwunwa placed second in a very competitive field and won a silver medal in the women’s javelin F54 category with an incredible throw of 19.26 meters.
In the Women’s 79kg Para Powerlifting category, Bose Omolayo achieved the silver medal for Nigeria with a powerful lift of 145kg.
Bronze was awarded to Isau Ogunkunle in the Men’s Singles Class 4 Para Table Tennis competition. Since the Sydney 2000 Games, Ogunkunle has become the first Nigerian athlete to win an individual medal in Para Table Tennis.
Reacting to their achievements earlier, Minister of sports, Senator Enoh said, “We are immensely proud of our Team Nigeria Paralympic athletes.
Bose Omolayo, Flora Ugwunwa, and Isau Ogunkunle have brought us immense pride and joy with their incredible performances on the global stage. Their dedication, resilience, and passion embody the true spirit of Nigeria, and they continue to inspire millions with their remarkable achievements.”
