Oyo Prison Fellowship of Nig. Hosts Christmas Party For Inmates’ Children
...Admonishes Philanthropists To Remain Resolute In Giving Back
Philanthropists, Public Spirited individuals and children loving Nigerians have been advised not to be discouraged in giving back to the society following the stampede that claimed the lives of many people in Ibadan, Anambra and Abuja during a children Christmas funfair and food distribution exercises.
A cleric, Reverend Kayode Oluyombo gave the advise at a Christmas Party organized by the Oyo state Prison Fellowship of Nigeria for children of inmates serving jail terms in different correctional centres in Oyo state.
Reverend Oluyombo who is the state coordinator of the programme tagged “Promise Path Initiative” also called for thorough prayer intercessions before, during and after any such philanthropic events to guide against unforseen circumstances.
He said “the season we’re in now, has a reason, any philanthropical event must carry the spirit of Christ, the idea of bringing up a philanthropical event must be properly arranged, and prayers. Anything you want to do that is good, the devil will contest it, so before you embark on anything like making people happy, celebrating, showing and sharing love, you must pray and pray, and pray very well.”
The cleric said the purpose of the annual Christmas party for the inmates’ children was to teach them the love of God and give them a sense of belonging during the festive season which served as a succour to what their parents who are presently incarcerated cannot provide for them.
He said “And like the season that we’re in, the season we’re celebrating now is Jesus Christ, the love of God that was sent to the world, that’s what we’re celebrating and that’s what we’ve come here to share”
“For this event, on the last count, we have 36 children that benefitted, apart from the adults and the guardians. We initially expected 32 children but those children brought their brothers and sisters, but we thank God that we prepared for extra, we always add more in case we have increased number of attendees, and that’s planning”
Reverend Oluyombo admonished the children to know that Jesus is the light of the world, who shows light in darkness for anyone that follow Him
Earlier, in a welcome address, chairman, Oyo State Prisons Fellowship of Nigeria, Prophet Boyede Sule represented by the state secretary of the fellowship, Mrs Rachel Alabi stressed the need for parents to be committed to the proper upbring of their children to make them good ambassordors of their families and the society at large.
Some of the inmates’ children while appreciating Oyo state Prison Fellowship of Nigeria, also explained that the less privileged children would become more vulnerable in the society and be denied people’s goodwill if philanthropists get discouraged from giving back to the needy.
