Oyo Govt Set Dates For Distribution of Insecticide Treated Nets As Commissioner Emphasizes Requirement For Collection
In an effort to reduce malaria transmission in Oyo state, the state ministry of health has fixed August 1st, 2025 for the mass distribution of free long lasting insecticide treated net for residents.
Oyo state commissioner for health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi disclosed this while speaking with journalists during a media parley at the ministry’s conference room, secretariat, Ibadan.

Dr. Ajetunmobi also hinted that a registration exercise which is a prerequisite for the collection of the insecticide net would begin next week Thursday and ends on 16th July, 2025.

The commissioner who said trained health mobilizers in blue aprons will be in communities to register residents and give net card slips said the focus of the exercise is to focus on vulnerable groups – pregnant women, children under 5, and rural communities.
“Trained mobilizers in blue aprons will be in your communities to register you and give you a net card slip from 10th-16th July, 2025
“Ensure you are available on the days to be registered. Remember, no net card slip, no net.
“Distribution Strategy: Explain the door-to-door approach, use of community mobilizers, and any innovations (e.g., digital data collection).
She said the prevalence of Malaria in Oyo State stands at twenty-one percent but expressed hope that the mass distribution of long lasting Insecticide Treated Net would reduce malaria cases, hospital admissions and child mortality
She, however warned against any form of diversion, negligence or fraudulent act during the distribution exercise, adding that any individual culpable will be sanctioned.
She said “To our ad-hoc staff generally, let me emphasize that honesty and professionalism are non-negotiable. The government has established a strong accountability framework that will reward best practices and sanction misconduct. Any diversion, negligence, or fraudulent act will be treated seriously.
Dr. Ajetunmobi appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for his visionary leadership as it continues to transform the health sector in Oyo State.
On his part, the representative End-Of-Life Insecticide-Treated Nets in Nigeria, Mr. OLOWO-OKERE MUBARAK revealed that over 5 million nets are being produced for residents of the state, adding that old nets with residents will be retrieved for recycling.
