Oyo State Governor Seyi Makimde is scheduled to officially launch the construction of the Oyo State Gas Infrastructure Development and Distribution Project.
According to the Commissioner for Energy, Barr. Seun Ashamu, the project is a component of the State Government’s effort to strengthen the State’s economy and establish a new gas economy.
Ashamu claimed that after the project, which is being done in partnership with Shell Nigeria Gas Ltd, is finished, gas will be supplied to commercial, manufacturing, and industrial businesses.
He said, “It is an opportunity to build a new gas distribution infrastructure network in Oyo State to deliver gas to industrial, manufacturing and commercial companies”.
Ashamu, who today verified the development, revealed that the new power plant will also benefit independent power projects as well as newly emerging industrial corridors and parks/zones.
“New emerging industrial corridors and industrial parks/zones, Independent Power Projects will also benefit from this project”, he said.
He stated that the project which is scheduled to take place at KM 10 Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, is expected to boost domestic gas consumption, power generation, as well as industrialization in the country.
“It will provide stable power generation for industrial and residential use within the state”, he said.
