Oyo Governorship Aspirant Olawore Exits PDP Amid Internal Crisis

A governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Ambassador Abdulsabur Abiola Olawore, has resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party after spending over two decades in the party.

Olawore disclosed his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1 in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The former PDP stalwart, who said he had been a member of the party since 1999, stated that his resignation takes immediate effect.

“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective from today, May 9, 2026,” the letter read.

Explaining the reason for his exit, Olawore cited the lingering disunity and factionalisation within the party at the national level.

According to him, the decision followed extensive consultations with his family members, political associates, and supporters, adding that he believes his political future and the interests of his supporters would be better served outside the PDP.

Despite his resignation, Olawore noted that his next political move would be guided by the directive of Governor Seyi Makinde, whom he described as his political leader and a man whose leadership style he trusts.
