In his continued efforts to equip youths in his constituency with the needed 21st-century skills, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, member, representing Ibadan Southwest/Northwest federal constituency of Oyo state at the House of Representatives today held a comprehensive digital literacy and data protection training programme, facilitated for 600 youths in his federal constituency.
The training held in collaboration with the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa was targeted at putting youths within the constituency as well as Oyo state on the digital space and teaching new wave of innovations, for them to compete favourably with their counterparts in developed countries.
Participants at the training, were empowered with the needed skills, knowledge and tools to navigate the digital world with special focus on the importance of safeguarding personal data and cybersecurity, basic computer operations, internet usage, digital marketing, and the principles of data protection and privacy.
It will be recall that Hon. Adedeji Olajide popularly called Odidimo has over the years shown commitment to bridging the digital gap among Nigerian youths with the training and retraining of young individuals in Ibadan Southwest/Northwest Federal constituency, while further reiterating the critical need for cyber, digital and information securities in Nigeria.
Earlier in his remarks, Hon. Olajide, represented by senior legislative assistant, Kunle Folarin, highlighted the transformative potential of digital literacy, which he said is not just an advantage; but a necessity”, while also expressing confidence that the training will not only open doors of opportunities for the beneficiaries but also educate them on how to protect their online identities and personal data to ensuring digital safety and security.
On his part, the National Commissioner/ CEO, Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent O. Olatunji, who was represented by Mrs Abiola Jide-Abe, Head, Strategy, Partnerships and Communication, NDPC, said the collaborative effort with the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, underscored the programme’s focus on providing a solid foundation in digital skills for the youths.
He urged all Nigerians to remain proactive in protecting their personal data explained that the initiative is expected to have a ripple effect, inspiring similar programme’s across Oyo State and beyond, as the nation embraces a more digitally savvy and secure future.
