As part of efforts to drastically reduce the menace of gender-based violence in Oyo state, the Child Protection Network, CPN has inaugurated community champions and established community child protection committees in Apete, Awotan area of Ibadan.
CPN state coordinator, Mrs Rosemary Odigbo who made this known in an interview said the community champions and child protection committees were established during a Family Strengthening Program organized in collaboration with SOS Children’s Villages for Oyo State.
The event was also organized on the sideline of this year’s 16 days activism against gender based violence
Mrs Odigbo said the focus was to strengthen capacity building on child protection matters in rural communities
She further explained that child protection is a collective duty and needs a collaborative approach from the network to win the fight against the menace.
Some participants at the event, including the General Secretary of the Awotan community, Pastor Sigwe Edwin, and Adebowale Samuel, lauded the CPN for bringing such training that will equip them on how to care for our children so that their future can be protected.
