Oyo Assembly C’ttm On Public Account Reviews Financial Activities Of State-Established Institutions, Others

The Chairman, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olusola Owolabi, has charged various corporations, commissions, institutions, agencies, and other state-established bodies to use funds allocated by the state government judiciously to foster meaningful development.

Mr. Owolabi made this statement during a legislative hearing reviewing the financial activities of these institutions and agencies for the fiscal years 2018 through 2022.

He emphasized that the goal of the exercise is to establish transparency and accountability within the state, assuring residents that the current administration is committed to the principles.

He said “The Assembly has the authority to scrutinize the financial activities of various corporations, commissions, institutions, agencies, and other bodies established by state laws. The House Committee on Public Accounts is currently holding a legislative hearing to review the audited financial accounts of these bodies for the years 2018–2022,”

“This exercise aligns with the legislative powers of the House, enabling us to examine how funds allocated to various agencies and MDAs have been spent in executing their duties,” he added.

Mr. Owolabi, who represents the Ibadan North East Constituency, noted that in the past, such exercises were not conducted after the Auditor General’s report was submitted.

He, however, assured that the 10th Assembly, under the leadership of Mr. Adebo Ogundoyin, was committed to thoroughly examining the audited reports of all agencies, corporations, MDAs, and bodies in the state to ensure accountability.

“The 10th Assembly, under the guidance of Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has made it a priority to mandate the Public Accounts Committee to review these audited reports to promote accountability in the state,” Hon. Owolabi explained.

Mr. Owolabi praised the progress the agencies have made in their 2023 and 2024 reports, expressing hope that this would set a positive precedence for the state.
