Oriire Abduction: Future Of Students Becomes Endangered If Urgent Security Measures Are Not Put In Place – ASUSS Tells Oyo Govt

...Commiserates With Victims' Families

Following the ugly incident that occurred at Ahoro Esiele in the Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where a teacher and a student lost their lives while some students were abducted, the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Oyo State Chapter, has called on the Oyo State Government, through the Ministry of Education, to urgently provide adequate security for schools across the state, with special emphasis on schools located in rural communities and villages.

This is contained in a statement signed by the union’s chairman in Oyo state, Comrade Mrs Deborah Ranti Oluwemimo and secretary, Comrade Ayo Adekunle

The statement notes that when schools are no longer safe, attendance drops drastically and the future of the students becomes endangered.

It says if urgent security measures are not put in place, teachers may also be unable to discharge their professional responsibilities effectively due to the fear and trauma associated with insecurity.

The statement reads in part:
