Nigerians Are Running Out Of Patience – Baptist Convention Reacts To Persistent Cases Of Kidnapping, Attacks On Schools
The Nigerian Baptist Convention has called for urgent and decisive action against rising insecurity following the abduction of 46 persons, including teachers, students and a two-year-old toddler, in communities within Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
President of the Convention, Reverend- Doctor Israel Akanji in a release said Nigerians are running out of patience over the persistent cases of kidnapping, killings and attacks on schools and churches across the country.
According to the Convention, the victims were abducted from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School by suspected terrorists, while four motorcycles were also stolen during the attack.
Reverend Akanji described the condition of the kidnapped children and teachers as heartbreaking, noting that they are being held under harsh weather conditions in the bush, while some teachers reportedly lost their lives during the incident.
The Baptist Convention urged governments at all levels and security agencies to adopt stronger and modern strategies to tackle insecurity and ensure the safe release of the victims
Reverend Akanji also renewed calls for the establishment of state police and appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders and Nigerians to support efforts aimed at ending banditry and kidnapping.
