Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Oyo-Osun Area command has disclosed that illicit goods have brought in over six point three billion Naira for the command in May, 2024.
At a press conference conducted at the command’s headquarters in Agodi, Ibadan, Area Commander Dr. Ben Oramalugo made this announcement to give update on the activities of the area command.
According to Dr. Oramalugo, the extra sum in May raised the command’s overall revenue from January to May 2024 to more than thirty-six billion Naira.
Itemizing the goods including premium motor spirits, cannabis sativa, foreign parboiled rice , used tyres and two vehicles, the comptroller who noted that smuggling is reducing in Oyo and Osun states , said the command would not rest until it achieved zero level of smuggling.

The Area commander of the NCS, Oyo-Osun command noted that the porosity of the nation’s border has contributed greatly to banditry and smuggling in the nation, hence the need to work more at fighting smuggling.
Dr Oramalugo further stated that the introduction of advanced technology including electronic-confirmation of vehicle documents, monitoring through drone have assisted greatly in combating smuggling.
Highlight of the briefing was the handing over of cannabis sativa worth over twenty one million naira to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Oyo state command.
