NAFDAC Seals Illegal Factory In Ibadan

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has sealed B-Supreme, a juice manufacturing factory in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, for producing without the agency’s registration number.

Speaking with NAN on Wednesday, Roseline Ajayi, NAFDAC south-west director, said the agency’s state office in Osun sent information via WhatsApp about the company’s products that were discovered in a hamper without a NAFDAC registration number.

“Our state office sent me the clip to verify because it has an Ibadan address and I checked whether the company has a file with NAFDAC and truly it has,” she said.

“However, while going through the file, I discovered that the company actually applied for registration, but no indication that inspection was done or NAFDAC number given.”

The director said an application and payment were not the same as registration, adding that a lot of procedures are involved in the registration of a product.

Ajayi said the agency’s inspection officers who traced the company’s location discovered that it was into the production of three varieties of juices without NAFDAC number.

“The first step we took was to seal the premises because it is an unauthorised premise producing unregistered products,” she said.

“We invited the producer to come to our office and it was when he came that we discovered that he actually registered for water production in 2018.

“He initiated registration for the production of juice but did not complete it.”

Ajayi said the producer also did not have the necessary equipment for packaging and production of juice.

She added that the unnamed producer was required to buy additional machines in a follow-up to getting the NAFDAC registration number.

She said the agency was going to raise public awareness and mop up the B-Supreme juice already in circulation.

She also appealed to Nigerians to stop patronising products that do not have NAFDAC registration numbers.
