Museums Are Crucial Hubs For Research – Holloway

The Director General, National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Mr Olugbile Holloway on Monday said that it is pivotal to create awareness on the preservation, protection, and appreciation of the rich cultural and natural heritage of humanity.

Holloway said this at the 2024 celebration of the International Museum Day with the theme “Museums for Education and Research”.

Holloway, who was represented by Mrs Oriyomi Otuka, the Curator National Museum of Unity, said it’s breathtaking to see the dedication that surrounds members of staff in the preservation and appreciation of our cultural heritage.

“The theme resonates deeply with the core mission of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments. This is also in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the president in areas of education, cultural, and creative economy,” she said.

Otuka said that museums are not merely repositories of artifacts; they are invaluable institutions that serve as hubs for learning, exploration, and enlightenment.

“In an era marked by rapid technological advancements and globalization, museums play a pivotal role in fostering a deeper understanding of our past, present, and future.

“They serve as platforms for education, offering immersive experiences that transcend traditional classroom settings.

“Museums are crucial hubs for research, providing scholars and enthusiasts alike with access to invaluable resources and insights.

As we celebrate the International Museum Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to harnessing the power of museums for the betterment of society, said the Curator.

” Let us strive to make our museums more inclusive, accessible, and engaging for people of all ages and backgrounds,” she said.
