Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday received a group of All Progressives Congress (APC) members who defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), in a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors, drawn from different parts of Oyo State, were led by Ajiboye Akande Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, a former aide to former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
The defection was announced during the Boye Nation and JAF Movement Mega Concert held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, where the group formally declared its support for the APM.
Reports ahead of the event had indicated that members of the Boye Nation movement and other APC supporters would be received into the APM fold by Makinde.
The event, organised under the Young, United and Unstoppable (YUU) platform, combined political mobilisation with entertainment, attracting youths and political supporters from across the state.
The defectors were described by organisers as members of the APC drawn from all the local government areas in Oyo State, with the group converging on Adamasingba for the formal decamping.
Speaking at the gathering, one of the event coordinators, Demola Omiyale, said the group decided to move to the APM because, according to him, their principal was denied the APC governorship ticket.
He said the members could not continue to work for a candidate they did not support, adding that they had chosen to back APM governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi.
“We are moving into the APM because our principal was robbed of the gubernatorial ticket of the APC,” Omiyale said, according to reports from the event.
The political gathering also featured performances from prominent Fuji and Afrobeats artistes, including Alabi Pasuma, Taye Currency and Qdot, among others, as the organisers combined the defection ceremony with the YUU youth concert.
The development comes as political activities intensify in Oyo ahead of the 2027 elections, with the APM stepping up its mobilisation around Makinde and its other candidates in the state.
