Local government workers under the aegis of National Union Of Local Government Employee, NULGE, Oyo state chapter have taken to the streets of Ibadan to push for urgent action on implementation of LG Autonomy and to draw the attention of relevant stakeholders on the demand.
Some of the workers were seen moving around major streets of Ibadan, chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards with different inscriptions such as “Say Yes to local government autonomy” among others.
Speaking with Habeeb Adedapo, NULGE chairman in Ibadan North West Local government, Comrade Sola Muhideen Durodola hinted that the protest followed a joint meeting held on Wednesday 5th June, 2024 where the Oyo state chairman of the union, Com Ayo Adeogun directed that all the 33 council chairmen to mobilize their members for the awareness rally.

Com. Durodola explained that the union had embarked on similar rally in late 2023 and January 2024 to send signal to relevant authorities.
He said for meaningful development to take place at the grassroots, state governors must prioritize the implemention of local government autonomy
Recall that the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Lateef Fagbemi had dragged the 36 Governors to court over the local government autonomy.
