Wife of the Oyo state governor, Tamuno Makinde on Friday led women organizations, non governmental organizations and government officials on a campaign walk against Gender Based violence in Ibadan.
Wife of the Oyo state governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde has clamoured for more concerted efforts among stakeholders to ensure women and girls are safe in the society.
Mrs Makinde gave the appeal in Ibadan after a sensitization walk to climax the this year’s sixteen days activism against Gender Based violence, organized by her office, the ministry of women affairs and in partnership with United Nations Population Fund, UNPF
Mrs Makinde Who explained that the sensitization walk was a call to action against all forms of violence against women, said it was also a way to show renewed commitment to fight against harmful practices such as Female Genital Mutilation, bartering and molestation which she said was traumatic for Victims.
While advising victims of any form of gender based violence to speak out, confide in trusted persons and seek help from the state ministry of women affairs, Mrs Makinde appealed to members of the public to show commitment in helping victims of abuses.
Mrs Makinde and her team also visited Akinyele settlement Centre where she distributed 150 hygiene kits and support materiasl to women and girls in commemoration of the 16 days of activism.
The walk which had earlier kicked off at the state house of assembly, Secretariate Agodi, terminated at Favors, Bodija, Ibadan.
