The newly installed Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr Oludaisi Elemide has described his emergence as the collective decision of members to reposition the Assembly.
Mr Elemide who stated this to newsmen at the Assembly Complex promised to uphold the rule of law and protect the interest of all members.
The new speaker expressed the determination of the House to ensure passage of people – oriented bills that would ensure good governance in tune with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s bid to better the lot of the state.
Mr Elemide became the Speaker following the impeachment of his predecessor, Mr Olakunle Oluomo by 18 out of the 26 members of the House and his subsequent swearing -in at a plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Mrs Bolanle Ajayi.
The lawmakers, belonging to both the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the opposition, People’s Democratic Party, PDP, had accused the ousted Speaker of various offences, especially high handedness, lack of focus and transparency, arrogance, poor leadership style and misappropriation of funds.
