How Alleged Fraudulent Mechanic Vanished With Customer’s Car In Ibadan – Police

Oyo state police command says one Babatunde Awopetu has been arrested for alleged car theft in Ibadan.
The command made this known on Saturday on its verified X handle, @OyoPoliceNG
It posted “On September 28, 2025, GANIYU (Real name undisclosed) from Ogun State headed to Ibadan, Oyo, to buy an unregistered Toyota Camry. After the deal, he sought repairs before returning to Abeokuta.
“In Agodi, he met BABATUNDE AWOPETU, a fraudulent mechanic who took the car for repairs—only to vanish with it. GANIYU, unable to locate him, reported the theft to the police team on Operation Restore Peace, who escalated the matter to the Command Monitoring Unit.
“Thanks to a swift undercover investigation, detectives tracked AWOPETU to a hideout in Ibadan and arrested him.
“The stolen Toyota Camry was found in Ilesa, Osun State.
“AWOPETU confessed during questioning, and the investigation continues.
