Executive Director, Hope For Second Chance Foundation, HOSEC, Mrs Ibukunoluwa Otesile says the foundation strongly affirm that girls should be empowered to lead change.
In a statement to mark the day, Mrs Otesile said girls empowerment is key to building resilient communities and sustainable development.

She said “We are proud to join the world to amplify the voices, dreams, and leadership of our girls this year.

“The 2025 theme is both timely and urgent, as our girls continue to find their voice and take bold initiatives to improve themselves and their communities.
“At HOSEC Foundation we strongly affirm that empowering girls to lead change, not just survive crisis is key to building resilient communities and sustainable development.
“This year, we deepens our commitment through three high-impact initiatives designed to empower, educate, and equip girls to thrive as change agents in their communities.
“First is the 5th edition of our Skill Up a Girl, a 3-Week Empowerment programme in Ibadan and Abeokuta.
“Skill Up a Girl 5.0 continues to bridge the gender skills gap by training 300 indigent girls over three intensive weeks in vocational, digital, and leadership skills.
“The programme blends hands-on learning with mentorship, preparing participants to become self-reliant and socially impactful leaders who can navigate crisis with competence and confidence.
“Secondary is our Sanitary Pad Bank Project
“To address menstrual poverty and school absenteeism, HOSEC Foundation is establishing Sanitary Pad Banks in seven public schools across Oyo State.
“These pad banks will ensure continuous, free access to sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene education, restoring confidence, dignity, and consistent school attendance for girls, even in challenging circumstances.
“Finally, our Jide Adesina Female Basketball Tournament 4.0
Recognizing the power of sports in shaping mindsets, the Jide Adesina Female Basketball Tournament is a powerful tool to foster discipline, teamwork, leadership, and resilience. It is simply using sport to empower girls to stay strong and focused despite social pressures and crises.
“At the end of the commemoration, we would have 300 girls equipped with employable and leadership skills, 7 schools benefiting from sustainable menstrual health support systems, Increased participation of girls in leadership and sports development and Heightened awareness of girls’ rights, dignity, and resilience
“I like to call on all stakeholders to join us as we continue to amplifying girls’ voices and scale these initiatives for broader impact. Together, we will build a Nigeria where every girl leads with courage and thrives with dignity.
